Esther Albers
From an early age, Esther would spend hours drawing and painting. Her love of form, colour and imagination emerged early in life. Yet after highschool, she chose to study law in Leiden and Paris and subsequently spent many years working in the legal industry.
Eventually, Esther left the legal profession to pursue her true calling as an artist. Since then, she has devoted herself to exploring beauty, craftsmanship and the stories that meaningful objects can tell. Esther finds inspiration everywhere: in travel, nature, and the quiet details of everyday life that often go unnoticed. With a keen eye for color, materials, shapes and textures, she allows herself to be guided by the emotions and associations an object evokes.
She works primarily with antique wooden boxes. At auctions and antique shops she searches for exceptional pieces that capture her attention through their form, character or history. She is particularly drawn to objects that bear the marks and scars of a life lived. These subtle imperfections and irregularities give them the character that allows a story to be told. The reuse of these antique objects is part of the artistic process and the transformation into a work of art.
With a refined sense of composition, colour and detail, Esther creates contemporary icons in which past and present meet.
